How we use your donations

Newcastle Hospitals Charity raises funds for research, people, equipment, and for capital projects at GNCH allowing the Trust to go further for its young patients. Here are a few examples:

  • Sensory equipment for neurodiverse babies and children, and gaming karts and VR sets to distract and help soothe our patients during procedures.
  • A hardship fund dedicated to supporting families of younger patients to help with the unexpected costs of attending hospital for treatment.
  • Music and arts therapy sessions to make a child’s stay at hospital less daunting, including storytelling, live music in hospital wards, and creative arts.
  • Accommodation for families facing end of life care, providing comfort and a safe haven.

Charity supporters fund 'R2-Drill2'

Supporters of Newcastle Hospitals Charity have enabled the purchase of a state-of-the-art robotics system at Newcastle Hospitals which is already benefiting patients.

The new robot will make Newcastle Hospitals one of the UK’s first major centres to offer both paediatric and adult robot assisted surgery.

A celebration and naming ceremony took place at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, with “R2-Drill2” being drawn as the winning name in a fun competition for the naming of the system.

Andrew Bowey, consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in spinal surgery at the RVI (pictured): “We are excited to share this new technology with the wider Newcastle Hospitals team and we have already seen engagement which is fantastic to see.

“The technology has the potential to transform and improve patient care. We really appreciate Newcastle Hospitals Charity’s commitment to innovation in our service.”
