A warm welcome
Newcastle Hospitals Charity is the official charity for the Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH). Through our GNCH Fund, we support the many children and their families who come to our hospital for treatment and care, making their experience the best it can possibly be.
Hospitals can often be a scary place but thanks to our generous supporters and fundraisers we fund a range of projects to help make the hospital more welcoming for children, dedicated to supporting their needs. We also help fund life-changing research, cutting-edge equipment and technology so the clinical and research teams at the Great North Children’s Hospital can deliver better care to their patients.
An excellent example is our Arts Programme which aims to enhance the wellbeing and recovery of patients across Newcastle Hospitals.
The Great North Children’s Hospital
The Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH) is one of only 14 major children’s centres in the UK and with 245 beds, the most extensive range of children’s services outside of London. It provides a full range of tailored children’s health services to children from across the north of England and beyond.
Annually 32,000 children attend as inpatients, 44,000 children visit their Paediatric Emergency Department, 150,000 children have outpatient appointments and 15,000 attend as day cases.
It has special wards, operating theatres, outpatients, day case suites and an A&E department all tailored to children, their families and carers. The Hospital is a Regional Treatment Centre for children from the Northern region who have cancer, leukaemia and other related blood services.
Its young patients include thousands of local children from the North East and Cumbria as well as those who travel with their families from across the country, and even the world, to benefit from the GNCH’s specialist services.
