Newcastle Hospitals Charity to feature in Northern Pride 2024
18th July 2024 • NewsNewcastle Hospitals Charity is delighted to be taking part in Northern Pride 2024 this weekend.Charity staff will participate in the event’s march and will be holding a stall alongside Newcastle Hospitals this Saturday (20 July 2024).
Two stalls involving both Newcastle Hospitals Charity and Newcastle Hospitals will run side by side from 12noon until 5pm in the Market Village near the city centre’s Monument.
It’s expected more than 80,000 people will attend the three-day festival running under the theme “unapologetically visible” from Friday to Sunday with a map available on the event’s website.
Darren Castle-Beal, Charity Engagement and Impact Officer at Newcastle Hospitals Charity and co-chair of the Pride Staff Network within Newcastle Hospitals, said: “When I think of why Pride is important to me, the first word that comes to my mind is ‘freedom’. Freedom of being who I am, how I look like and what I wear, what I believe in, and who I love.
“Unfortunately, too many people around the world still don’t have such freedoms, so having Northern Pride to celebrate and reflect on the meaning of Pride is still very important, even in 2024.”
Martin Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle Hospitals and Executive Sponsor of the Pride Staff Network, said: “Newcastle Hospitals wants to see the back of all inequalities.
“Pride is one really visible way of showing to LGBTQ+ patients, staff and the wider public that the NHS wants everyone to feel safe, open, welcome and listened to, whoever you are.”
Newcastle Hospitals Charity strives to make an impact to help patients, staff and the communities of Newcastle Hospitals.
