Innovation and clinical research projects will:
- Show a clear and demonstrable benefit to NHS patients by translating ideas to improvements in clinical care and practice rather than be scientific or bench based.
- Be proof of concept or ‘pump-priming’.
- Demonstrate that there are no other sources of funding available from specific research-funding bodies/charities.
- If any revenue and equity is generated from research or projects, a fair proportion should be negotiated for Newcastle Hospitals Charity in good faith when intellectual property is to be licensed or assigned by the trust.
If we fund research activities, then the costs of publication can be considered as part of the project if they are proportionate overall.
- Clinical Fellowships.
- Structured programmes of clinical research.
- Medical equipment with the potential to further research equipment.
- Research delivery staff.
- Programmed activity time that is supported by the trust and provides dedicated time to focus on research and innovation.
- The costs of disseminating learning from research and or clinical practice and outcomes.
- Purely scientific and/or bench-based medical research.
- Higher level qualifications such as PhDs or MDs.
